Gulf Oil Spill may be contained as soon as Monday!?

Bp Oil Spill

Bp Oil Spill

Feds: Gulf oil leak could be contained by Monday.

Do we believe this story as we believed the rest… Junk Shots and containment caps and robots bumping into things with their big robotic asses. Or do we put our faith in the Feds? Seriously? 80+ days into this environmental disaster, we are supposed to just take the word that it ends unceremoniously on Monday July 12, 2010.

I’m going to take the leap and hope for the best, but there is a part of me, that is so skeptical moving forward. Its the same hope I had yesterday pre-9pm LeBron that he would be good and right and stay in Cleveland versus the post-9pm LeBron which had trouble wiping the blood off the knife he pulled out of Clevelands back. Part of me knew this was going to happen, just like I won’t be surprised, but in the same sense, saddened, when the BP/Feds/MMS/Transocean/Haliburton members botch this and it allows for more oil to spew unrelentlessly into the Gulf of Mexico.

Here is the article, via the Sarasota Herald Tribune, written by The Associated Press

The federal official leading the Gulf oil spill cleanup said Friday a new containment cap and an additional ship collecting oil could effectively contain the spill in the next three days.

The work to replace a leaky containment cap on the well head with a tighter one will begin Saturday, National Incident Commander Thad Allen said Friday. At the same time, a ship connecting to a different part of the leak is expected to come online Sunday.

Oil will flow unimpeded into the Gulf during the cap switch for at least part of the weekend.

If all goes according to plan, the combination of the cap and the new vessel could collect all the leaking oil by Monday. Work continues on what officials hope will be the ultimate solution: a pair of relief wells intercepting the leaking well far below the seafloor.

The new containment cap is expected to form a better seal over the well head, to allow more of the oil to be collected and sent up to ships on the surface for collection or burning.

“Technically it’s pretty achievable,” Allen said. He said if the new cap can’t be placed on the well, the old cap will be put back and there are multiple backup caps available in case any one cap fails.

The new, tighter cap should be in place early Monday. Allen said the ship Helix Producer, which is to be hooked to a different part of the leaking well — lower than the new cap — will start collecting oil Sunday and be fully operational Tuesday. He has previously said that the full system should be able to collect 60,000 to 80,000 barrels a day.

Cavaliers Owner Dan Gilbert Scolds LeBron in Open Letter to Fans

Cavaliers Owner Dan Gilbert Scolds LeBron in Open Letter to Fans

In the wake of LeBron James’s decision to leave the Cleveland Cavaliers and join the Miami Heat, Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert posted an open letter to fans on the team’s website. Mr. Gilbert, the 48-year-old chairman and founder of Quicken Loans Inc. and Rock Financial, became the majority owner of the Cavs in March 2005. (Read related article: LeBron James to Sign With Miami Heat.)

Dear Cleveland, All Of Northeast Ohio and Cleveland Cavaliers Supporters Wherever You May Be Tonight;

As you now know, our former hero, who grew up in the very region that he deserted this evening, is no longer a Cleveland Cavalier.

This was announced with a several day, narcissistic, self-promotional build-up culminating with a national TV special of his “decision” unlike anything ever “witnessed” in the history of sports and probably the history of entertainment.

Clearly, this is bitterly disappointing to all of us.

The good news is that the ownership team and the rest of the hard-working, loyal, and driven staff over here at your hometown Cavaliers have not betrayed you nor NEVER will betray you.

There is so much more to tell you about the events of the recent past and our more than exciting future. Over the next several days and weeks, we will be communicating much of that to you.

You simply don’t deserve this kind of cowardly betrayal.

You have given so much and deserve so much more.

In the meantime, I want to make one statement to you tonight:

“I PERSONALLY GUARANTEE THAT THE CLEVELAND CAVALIERS WILL WIN AN NBA CHAMPIONSHIP BEFORE THE SELF-TITLED FORMER ‘KING’ WINS ONE”

You can take it to the bank.

If you thought we were motivated before tonight to bring the hardware to Cleveland, I can tell you that this shameful display of selfishness and betrayal by one of our very own has shifted our “motivation” to previously unknown and previously never experienced levels.

Some people think they should go to heaven but NOT have to die to get there.

Sorry, but that’s simply not how it works.

This shocking act of disloyalty from our home grown “chosen one” sends the exact opposite lesson of what we would want our children to learn. And “who” we would want them to grow-up to become.

But the good news is that this heartless and callous action can only serve as the antidote to the so-called “curse” on Cleveland, Ohio.

The self-declared former “King” will be taking the “curse” with him down south. And until he does “right” by Cleveland and Ohio, James (and the town where he plays) will unfortunately own this dreaded spell and bad karma.

Just watch.

Sleep well, Cleveland.

Tomorrow is a new and much brighter day….

I PROMISE you that our energy, focus, capital, knowledge and experience will be directed at one thing and one thing only:

DELIVERING YOU the championship you have long deserved and is long overdue….

Dan Gilbert
Majority Owner

The Day the Music Died… Part II

 Jay-z and Beyonce

Jay-z and Beyonce

On the Flip Side, the rumors are just that. RUMORS. White static awash in a sea of speculation. I think I saw him wearing an orange cardigan, it must mean he is going to play for the Heat!

Chad OchoCinco ( I cannot believe I am referring to him as OchoCinco, I mean c’mon…really?) says NY is the place for LBJ as #6 with Amare. Does anyone else think Amare Stoudemire was only good when he had a point gaurd to actually pass him the ball to score on fast breaks.
He cannot rebound, does not play defense and isn’t a very good compliment shooter to LeBron who likes to burn 23 of the 24 seconds off the shot clock before jacking a “3”. Who is gonna get that rebound?

Anyhow, here is another rumor for all of us, dreading tonights announcement… Will Bron Bron turn his large shoulders on Cleveland… does he owe them any loyalty? Is he prepared to leave Usher for Jay-Z? or Gloria Estefan and Will Smith… you have heard the song Miami… Thats when I recomitted to thorough Q-tip cleansings… Really Will… Mee-Ammm-eee?
If LeBron leaves Cleveland with a black hole of angst and unsatisfied closure, then I to will leave the NBA as a true fan and return to being a bandwagon martyr with no true allegiance, only casting my support behind underdogs and rallying against the soul stealing Goliaths.

There is so much wrong with the triple dose of hired guns in this Miami scenario and while it is similar to Boston and the big 3. That story was written a bit different, in the feel there was hope, for class act players Ray Allen (Jesus Shuttlesworth) and Kevin Garnett (mired in Minnesota as a 100% guy for what seemed like eternity) and Paul Pierce, the quiet, yet ornery superstar. Hope that they could pull it together for a competitive season, and boy did they ever. Nothing is impossible, but then again, not much losing is possible if these 3 come together, and the feeling I get is not one of hope, but of greedy, young, seedy domination.

Instead of creating a lasting legacy in a city that would do anything for him, he will go to a city that will view him as a circus act and eat lettuce and wear hot pants as they roller skate to the arena to watch the Heat destroy teams like Indiana & New Jersey and Memphis… BOring… Lets Go GRIZZ!!!

Did Ochocinco and Dudley just ruin LeBron’s “Look At Me” party?
Free agency isn’t even a week old and it’s already an insufferable avalanche of sources, reports, rumors and attention-grabs.

Yeah, we all know that LeBron is going to announce his decision in a 1-hour special on ESPN tomorrow night at 9 (hosted by Stu Scott.. which is about right considering the tone of this offseason) and preceded by a 3-hour SportsCenter. It was supposed to be this big “look at me” moment…

Except Chad Ochocinco and Jared Dudley might have spilled the beans already. Earlier today, Ochocinco tweeted this:

6, of course, is going to be LeBron’s new number. Then Jared Dudley borrowed Ralphi’s Ovaltine secret code ring and came up with this:

Dudley knows Amar’e, obviously, so there’s some credence to that…. he probably didn’t just decipher Chad Ochocinco’s… ummm… “cleverly” disguised tweet.

So we’ve got two pro athletes suddenly tweeting at the same time that ‘Bron Bron is going to become a Knick. They sure as hell could be wrong. But if they’re right.. then they just blew the surprise.

It would also mean LeBron James just booked an hour long special on ESPN to publicly kick Cleveland in the nuts. The city that loved its native son… that suffered through sports humiliations like having the Browns ripped from their football loving hands… could be tuning in to have one of the biggest stars in their city’s history stand their in front of a national TV audience and profess his love for someone else.

Reports are leaning towards LeBron James joining Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh in Miami and leaving the Cleveland Money($30 million smackeroos), Cleveland Fans (Who are yearning like Cubs Fans for a title for the City. Period. — At least the Cubs fans enjoyed NHL titles, NFL titles and maybe even a little White Sox title action) and poor little Cleveland/Northeast Ohio Economy (Estimates have downtown Cleveland, which is on its heels from a poor economy and bad Indians teams, losing $20 million annually due to LeBron’s leaving)

If LeBron leaves to form this Tri-Fecta of Tyranny or Triage of Terror in Miami, then I denounce the NBA. I will go out and buy all the Kansas City Royals/Pittsburgh Pirates, Detroit Lions and Los Angeles Clippers, basically every team that has no money or chooses to spend very little money and therefore never competes with the created $$$ Oligarchy. (i.e. – NY Yankees, Boston Red Sox, Los Angeles Lakers, Dallas Cowboys… basically teams that spend all kinds of sick money in search of glory and legacies whether they ruin the integrity and fandom of the sport in their pursuit.)

Here is an article I read today from FOX Sports…

LeBron James move from Cleveland to Miami appears increasingly likely as the clock counts down to his decision.

Numerous reports Thursday morning said James is likely to join Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh with the Miami Heat, a development that positions the team as an immediate NBA contender.

Newsday reported James was leaning toward Miami, and ESPN has reported James will join the Heat barring a change of heart before his scheduled announcement.

“I’ll be watching,” Wade told The Associated Press. “We’ve scheduled it. I’ll make sure I’m in front of the TV (Thursday) at 9 to watch like everyone else.”

Opting for Miami could cost James millions of dollars in salary. The Cavaliers could sign James to a six-year contract for about $125 million. Assuming he splits the available cap space evenly with Bosh and Wade, the most James could get in Miami would be five years and about $90 million. The difference is somewhat mitigated by the lack of a state income tax in Florida.

LeBron James Fever gone Wild….

LBJ has a new twitter account…
LBJ has started a new website which will give you live feeds and updates of his annoucements…
I think the people who do care, only care about 1 announcement in particular. Where might King James spend his days and nights for the next 5 or 6 years…. Lets hope for 6 in the Q.

Here is a great ESPN article which helps put this frenzy in perspective and some interesting Fan Behavior as well.

By Tim Keown, ESPN The Magazine senior writer Tim Keown co-wrote Josh Hamilton’s autobiography, “Beyond Belief: Finding the Strength to Come Back

The idiocy is what we’ll miss. Once LeBron James announces Thursday where he’ll play basketball for the next several years, there will be no more alphabet-based songs from Broadway singers, no more fans spending their own money on billboards, no more guys waxing their chests and devising elaborate handshakes to persuade James to play basketball for their team.

Fans wooing LeBron James have used cars, websites, billboards, signs, songs and much more to spread their message.

The vast, endless stupidity is what separates us from other creatures. It is what makes us proud to be American sports fans. And in LeBron James we have found a remarkable confluence of circumstances, people and cities to bring the stupidity to an epic spike, a moment in time that is giving us a glimpse into the brains of a certain segment of the population.

Let’s break it down:

A pointed finger: Classic stall tactic. Caught off guard by the question, he buys himself some time by pointing at the questioner. Defuses the situation immediately by acknowledging both the question and the questioner. The outward point clearly indicates a desire to be elsewhere.

Advantage: Bulls.

Smile: He’s happy. He’s in Akron. Smile presents something of a contradiction when juxtaposed with outward pointing finger. Could be diversionary tactic. Important question not addressed: Was it a close-mouthed smile or were teeth involved? If teeth, done deal.

Advantage: Cavs.

The Perfect Storm is Brewing … Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh have agreed in principle to signing with Miami Heat… The world awaits King James’ proclamation!

It’s not destiny… The fortune cookie read, “Cav’s to win NBA Title”

The Cavaliers already have a global star. A clutch-shooting global star at that. Soon they may have a global partner that could help secure that global star’s future in Cleveland.

According to multiple sources within the Cavs, franchise majority owner Dan Gilbert has a tentative agreement in place to allow a group of Chinese investors to purchase a significant stake in the Cavaliers Operating Company, the entity that owns the Cavs and operates Quicken Loans Arena. The group is led by JianHua (Kenny) Huang, a Chinese businessman who has become successful by linking American and Chinese companies.

Huang and several of his partners were in Cleveland and attended Games 1 and 2 of the Eastern Conference finals this week. He sat in Gilbert’s courtside box Friday night and watched LeBron James hit a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to even the series with the Orlando Magic at one game apiece.

The Dark Angel of Akron drops some more Demonic News ~ #1-Chrysler plans to close dealerships #2-Forest City Enterprises reveals big job cuts #3-Shiloh Industries eliminating 111 jobs

#1-Chrysler plans to close 14 dealerships in Cleveland-Akron market

Northeast Ohio stands to lose 14 Chrysler dealerships from Elyria to Wadsworth, according to a U.S. Bankruptcy Court filing this morning by Chrysler LLC.

Dealerships targeted for closing include five Spitzer dealerships in Akron, Lakewood, Mayfield Heights, Parma and Sheffield Lake; three Ganley dealerships in Cleveland, Middleburg Heights and Wickliffe; and two Axelrod dealerships — Axelrod Chrysler in Parma and Axelrod-Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep Inc. in Wadsworth.

Also on the closing list are Abraham-Chrysler-Jeep in Elyria, Crestmont Chrysler Jeep in Beachwood, Great Northern Dodge in North Olmsted and Medina World Cars in Medina.

As the automaker’s bankruptcy unfolds, expect dealers to combat the closings.

Alan Spitzer, chairman and CEO of Spitzer Management Inc., could not be reached this morning and did not return a call. Nick Abraham, owner of Abraham-Chrysler-Jeep, also did not return a call.

#2-Forest City Enterprises reveals big job cuts in posting fourth-quarter loss

Forest City Enterprises Inc. (NYSE: FCEA, FCEB) has reported sizable net losses for the fourth quarter and fiscal year ended Jan. 31, while also revealing that it reduced its nationwide work force by nearly 500 full-time positions during the fiscal year as part of a cost-cutting drive to increase its liquidity.

The real estate giant said its net loss in the latest fourth quarter totaled $45.1 million, or 44 cents a share, and compares to a year-earlier profit of $12.6 million, or 12 cents a share. Revenue in the quarter fell 20%, to $323 million from $404.4 million.

#3-Shiloh Industries to close Medina County plant, eliminating 111 jobs

Shiloh Industries Inc. will shutter permanently its Liverpool Manufacturing Plant this summer, putting 111 employees at the Medina County operation out of work, according to a company filing with the state of Ohio.

Valley City-based Shiloh on Monday notified the state, via a required Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act filing, that it will close the plant. The company in March told the state that it was laying off 83 workers from its Medina Blanking Division, although those layoffs were termed “temporary.”

Shiloh, which primarily supplies U.S. domestic automakers and their vendors, has been hit hard by declining auto sales.
